You can search for clinical trials on the ANZCTR using either the basic search or the advanced search.

Getting started

  • Click here or use the 'search for trials' button on the home page.

Basic search

  • Type in keywords or phrases (e.g. diabetes, hot flushes)
  • The system will search all trials for your terms

Tip: to search for an exact phrase use double quotes.

Example: “hot flushes”
This will return trials with that exact phrase.

Advanced search

Use this option to search specific fields such as:

  • Health condition
  • Recruitment status
  • Recruitment sites

You can fill in one or more of these fields, then click ‘Search’.

Using search operators

You can refine your search using AND, OR, and parentheses:

  • AND
  • Finds trials that include all terms
  • Example: lung AND cancer
  • Returns trials that include both words

  • OR
  • Finds trials that include either term
  • Example: lung OR cancer
  • Returns trials with either word

  • Combining terms
  • Use paratheses to group terms and control search order
  • Example: (lung OR blood) AND cancer
  • Returns trials that include cancer and either lung or blood
