How to read a plain language summary
When reviewing trial results, here is what to look for:
- Primary outcomes: what the trial was mainly testing
- Secondary outcomes: additional effects the researchers looked at
- Numbers and statistics: look for terms such as risk reduction and confidence intervals
Find a trial to join
To search for trials currently recruiting in Australia or New Zealand:
- Follow the steps in How to search for a trial and
- Use the ANZCTR search tool to find relevant studies.
You can also explore:
- Australian Clinical Trials: provides a consumer-friendly search, using trial
information from the ANZCTR,
- Australian Cancer Trials: focuses on cancer trials recruiting in Australia,
using trial information from the ANZCTR, or
- World Health Organization trial search portal: includes information about
clinical trials occurring elsewhere in the world.

Contact the “Public queries” or “Scientific queries” person listed at the end of the trial record.
You do not need an ANZCTR user account to take part in a clinical trial.
Accounts are only required for individuals or organisations
registering trials on the ANZCTR.
