Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry

How to register a trial

Trial registration on the ANZCTR involves three steps.

Step 1: Apply for a user login

To register a trial you will need to be a registered user with a unique login. You only need to do this once, and can register as many trials as you wish. You can apply for new user login online by completing details regarding your name and professional contact details including your telephone number, email address and relevant affiliation (e.g. institution or collaborative research group). Choose a password you can remember, and click "Submit".

Step 2: Enter trial details

Once you have logged in you can register your trial online. You will first be asked to check whether the trial is already registered with the ANZCTR and whether you are the trial sponsor and thus eligible to register the trial. (please see 'Who is responsible for registering a trial' on the FAQ page)

You will then be directed to the data fields you need to complete. You are encouraged to complete all the fields if possible. Mandatory data fields are highlighted in bold and are based on the requirements for registration of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Click here to download the explanation of all data fields.

Following completion of each page, you should click the "Save and go to page 2 (or 3)" button at the bottom of the page. If you need to logout out and return later to complete your submission, your data will be saved. Once you have filled in all the required data fields you will be asked to "Verify" your data to ensure they are suitable for submission. If all the required fields have been completed, you will be able to "submit" your trial for registration.

If you wish to download and print the registration application form prior to registering your trial online, please click here [Word] [PDF].

Step 3: Confirmation of submission and registration

Once you have submitted your trial you will be given a "Request number". Please record the Request Number. This is NOT the registration number. You will be able to print the information you have entered for your records. You can then log off.

The ANZCTR staff will check the register to ensure this trial has not already been registered and the data is complete and unambiguous. You should expect a response within two working days.

The ANZCTR staff will communicate with you via email if they have any queries regarding your registration.

Following satisfactory verification of trial(s) registration each individual trial is allocated a unique Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry Number (ACTRN).

It is possible to register more than one trial during one online session.
